Welcome Message from the Dean
Widener Law School is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of its first graduating class.
The members of the class of 1975 made a huge leap of faith when they enrolled in our institution. The school achieved
American Bar Association accreditation - a necessity for graduates to sit for the bar exam - just
shortly before the first class graduated in August 1975. Today we are proud to be Delaware's only law school, with a
vibrant second campus in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We have more than 10,000 alumni nationwide and we enjoy a strong regional
presence with many alumni living or working in our tri-state area. Our alumni serve in more than 90 judgeships and in
law firms ranging from small boutiques to national powerhouses.
Our progress over 30 years is impressive especially considering the school's humble beginnings in the Wilmington YWCA
building,
where students sometimes served as carpenters and janitors. The Law School now serves as an East Coast center for the
prestigious National Judicial College and boasts a nationally-ranked health law program. Our corporate, law and government,
trial advocacy and environmental law programs continue to gain prominence. Widener has also grown into a shining example
for public service. Students working through its law clinics, Public Interest Resource Center in Wilmington, and Public
Interest Initiative in Harrisburg serve the disadvantaged. Many of our faculty play leading roles in the ABA and other
professional organizations, and their scholarship helps shape public policy.
We have much to celebrate. I hope you will take a moment to share a special memory of the law school here on our website.
It is a fitting place to reflect on all that Widener and its graduates have done to improve society, their communities,
and the lives of those they have served through the law.

More than 300 people gathered Friday, Oct. 7 at The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia to help Widener University School of Law celebrate its extraordinary history and the 30th anniversary of its first graduating class.
