Overview

The Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Health Law is designed for health care and other professionals who desire to expand their education and broaden their understanding of the legal and regulatory health care environment. It is one of the few such law school programs in the country, offering a distinctive opportunity for students to expand their employment opportunities. Widener Law School is accredited by the Compliance Certification Board (CCB) and is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA). Students are enabled with the knowledge to sit for the CHC (Certified in Healthcare Compliance) national exam upon successful completion of the program.

Flexible Scheduling
The MJ Health degree is an online program designed to accommodate the working professional seeking to improve employment opportunities or simply keep pace with changing regulatory requirements. It requires 29 credit hours of course work and can be completed in two academic years.

CCB Accredited Program
Widener School of Law is one of few law schools in the country accredited by the Compliance Certification Board (CCB) and is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) SCCEaward and the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE). Widener Law has received the SCCE International Compliance award for Educational Compliance Programs.

Students who complete CCB accredited compliance coursework from a CCB accredited university, such as Widener Law, are exempt from the 1500 hours of work experience in a compliance-related field, that is normally required to be an eligible candidate for a CCB exam.

Program Objectives
Courses aim to educate students for careers working with management and legal counsel as compliance officers and risk managers to fulfill the regulatory compliance requirements of health care and pharmaceutical organizations. Students are prepared to work in regulatory compliance analysis, risk management, and contract negotiations. During the capstone course, students will work through simulations to resolve compliance issues and mock exam questions.

Externships
The MJ program offers a Health Law Externship in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, for-profit and non-profit health care organizations, administrative and government agencies. This externship is open to students who have successfully completed their first year courses and is a great opportunity to gain practical skills while earning credits toward graduation.

Eligibility
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Applicants preferably will have recent or current professional employment in health care or a closely related field.

Tuition
The tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year is $1,024 per credit*. Financial aid is available for qualified students. (*Subject to change.)

Overview
The Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Health Law with a concentration in Legal Nurse Consulting & Compliance is designed for nurses who hold a current BSN license and who wish to advance their education and career options in medical-legal settings and broaden their understanding of the legal and regulatory health care environment. Our graduate program prepares nurses in the specialty area of legal nurse consulting which offers positions in a variety of employment fields such as compliance, risk management, medical organizations, pharmaceutical companies, legal offices, and government agencies. Upon successful completion of the program, students are enabled to sit for the Certified in Healthcare Compliance national exam.

Certificates
This graduate program seeks to prepare nurses in two specialty areas with one certificate:
  • The Legal Nurse Consultant portion demonstrates that the holder has obtained special skills and knowledge required to act as an independent nurse consultant with legal knowledge required to investigate health care issues.
  • The Hospital Regulatory Compliance portion demonstrates that the holder has an understanding of health care policy and regulations.

This externship is open to students who have successfully completed their first year courses and is a great opportunity to gain practical skills while earning credits toward graduation.

The Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Health Law with a concentration in Global Compliance and Ethics is a master’s degree program designed for those seeking graduate-level training in legal analysis and global regulatory compliance and ethics for careers working with international corporate, business, non-profit, health, or government entities.

Program Description
The MJ in Health Law with a concentration in Global Compliance and Ethics is an online program designed to accommodate the working professional seeking to improve employment opportunities or simply to keep pace with changing regulatory requirements. Widener Law’s program requires 29 credit hours of course work and can be completed in two academic years. During the global capstone course, students will work through simulations to resolve global compliance issues and mock exam questions for the Compliance Certification Board's (CCB) exam to become a Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional–International (CCEP-I)®. According to the CCB, the CCEP-I is someone with knowledge of relevant international regulations and expertise in compliance processes sufficient to assist organizations with their legal obligations, and someone who promotes organizational integrity through the operation of effective compliance programs.
