Doctor of Laws in Health Law
A doctoral program designed for graduates of either a Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) or a Master of Juridical Science (M.S.J) in Health Law program, the Doctor of Laws (D.L.) will enhance your expertise in health law. In this program, you will engage in exhaustive research and immerse yourself in an individualized program while working towards the completion of your dissertation.

Curriculum
You may take courses to enhance your research skills in order to prepare you for writing your dissertation. You may wish to complete some core health law courses or elective health law courses depending on your previous experience. You will be required to enroll in an Advanced Research Methods course each semester, and you may perform fieldwork such as lectures or continuing education instruction.

During your second year, you will write a doctoral dissertation under the supervision of a member of the Health Law Institute faculty. Your doctoral dissertation will be presented to both the doctoral committee and the health law community, and it must be on a subject within the expertise of the health law faculty such as:

  • Healthcare liability
  • Managed care legal issues
  • Healthcare antitrust
  • Bioethics, including reproductive technology and issues in death and dying
  • Public Health
  • Law and Science
  • Toxic Torts
  • Healthcare regulations and finance
  • Bioterrorism
