Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law Open House: March 19th, 2009


The Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) in Health Law is designed for health care and other professionals who desire to expand their education and broaden their understanding of the legal and regulatory health care environment. It is one of the few such law school programs in the country, offering a unique opportunity for students to expand their employment opportunities. Widener’s Health Law Program is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top health programs in legal education, and one of the top five among programs that offer graduate degrees.

Information Session We invite you to attend our Information Session on Thursday, March 19th which will provide an opportunity to learn more about the M.J. Health Law program. You will meet faculty and administrators involved in the M.J. in Health Law program, as well as current students and other applicants. Registration will begin at 5:30; Program will start at 6:00 p.m.

Career Path The degree is designed to prepare health professionals for careers in risk management, health care regulations, corporate compliance, medical privacy compliance, utilization review, contract negotiations, food & drug law, nursing law, long-term care law, bioethics, patient advocacy, and other health law areas.

Degree Granted The M.J. in Health Law is a graduate degree, offered by the School of Law of Widener University, an A.B.A. approved law school.

Eligibility A Bachelor’s degree is required. Applicants preferably will have recent or current professional employment in the health care, pharmaceutical, or insurance industries. Students have included registered nurses, pharmaceutical sales personnel, risk compliance officers, public health officials, and hospital administrators.

Course Requirements The M.J. in Health Law degree is a part-time evening program, which requires thirty (30) credit hours of course work and can be completed in two academic years.

Classroom Experience Classes are taught by law school faculty and prominent lawyers who are nationally recognized experts in health law, including faculty who have published books and numerous articles on health care law.

Tuition The tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year is *$790 per credit. Financial aid is available for qualified students. (*Tuition is subject to change next academic year).
