The ACLU Widener chapter is dedicated to advancing the goals of the National American Civil Liberties Union. By fighting for the rights granted in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the ACLU is committed to ensuring the civil liberties and civil rights of all Americans. The ACLU specifically focuses on the First Amendment's freedom of speech, association, religion and press; Equal protection and due process under the 5th and 14th amendments; and Criminal rights under the 4th, 5th and 8th amendments. If the rights of society's most vulnerable members are denied, every one's rights are imperiled.
The Widener chapter chooses one or two issues to specifically focus on, issues most important to our students, and puts together programs with community members and experts in the field to discuss and debate the topics. Civil Liberties should be respected even in times of national emergency, and the first line of defense are the future lawyers that will be struggle for those rights.
