The 26th Conference of the Nordic Sociological Association 2012 will be held from August 15th through the 18th at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik, and both Professor Larry D. Barnett
and Associate Professor Paul L. Regan
will be presenters.
Professor Barnett will serve as the Chair of the session on the sociology of law. Three other presenters – one on a postdoctoral appointment in the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo, another from the Department of Sociology at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, and the third from Latvia – will join him for the session. Professor Barnett will present “A Macrosociological Study of Law on Divorce in Western Europe.”
Associate Professor Paul L. Regan will present his article, “Human Rights Compliance and Accountability for U.S. Multinational Enterprises,” which he says will “Propose a new federal law, amending the Alien Tort Statute, to create a liability mechanism that would encourage US Multinational Corporations to establish compliance systems to ensure that their overseas subsidiaries adhere to fundamental human rights norms in connection with their overseas business operations.”
