Sunshine kissed the course on May 9, 2007, at the inaugural Harrisburg Alumni & Friends Golf Outing at Blue Ridge Country Club. After enjoying a barbeque on the patio, a shotgun start sent golfers to various points on the course to begin their games.
All players received special coupons designed to spice up the play and enhance their games. They could be used at their discretion during the 18 holes of golf. The "throw" coupon gave golfers an opportunity to throw the ball instead of swing, which led to many discussions as to whether and overhand throw or underhand throw would work better. Use of the "powerball" coupon entitled men to hit from the ladies tee spot and entitled women to throw the ball from the tee area, not counting it as a stroke, and proceed to hit from the landing spot. Two opportunities to take a mulligan were also included in the coupon book. The Cadillac CTS hole-in-one prize donated Brenner Cadillac sat on Hole 16 of the course and while a few of the golfer's drives came close to the cup, no one was able to drive home in a new car. Carl Pierce won the raffle to swing for $1,000,000 but fell short of sinking the shot.
During dinner following the round of golf, every golfer received a Widener Law golf umbrella, golf item discounts to Dick's Sporting Goods, and a ticket entitling him/her to a free Upswing golf club. With a final score of 62, the winning foursome of Joe Baker, Rocco Imperatrice '80, Carl Pierce, and Pat Sullivan received a complimentary round of golf at Blue Ridge Country Club. The team capturing the second place prize and pro shop gift certificates with a score of 71 was George Bibikos '03, Jennifer Zimmerman '02, Jan Budman '06, and Scott Blissman '97. Ending the round with a total score of 73, third place honors went to the Weber Gallagher foursome of Zachary Rubinich '99, Chris Davis '92, and their guests. Dean Ammons drew names to determine who would take home a plethora of other prizes.
The 2nd Annual Harrisburg Alumni & Friends Golf Outing will be held Spring 2008.
