On Saturday, September 24th, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society on the Delaware campus held a Negotiation Competition for Widener Law students interested in joining the society. Following the competition, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society welcomed fifty new members.

The competition attracted the participation of 108 Widener Law students. Local attorneys, professors, mediators, and recent alumni served as judges for the competition, which consisted of a morning round and an afternoon round.

Each team of two students was given a fact pattern with confidential information, which they had to use to negotiate the best deal for their client during a 30-minute session. The four top scoring teams – consisting of students Briana Granieri, Ashley Edwards, Geoff Gleason, Chris Pine, Alan Aclo, Vijay Yellareddigari, Jenna Stayton, and Sammier Mustafa – moved on to a third round where they were given 45 minutes to prepare for a new fact pattern.

Associate Professors Leslie A. Johnson and Patrick J. Johnston and two recent graduates, Damiano del Pino ’11 and Joe Siclari ’11, judged the final round of the competition and offered valuable perspective and feedback to the student competitors. Students Briana Granieri, Ashley Edwards, Geoff Gleason, and Chris Pine made up the two highest scoring teams and will represent Widener Law at the ABA Regional Negotiation Competition at the University of Richmond School of Law in Richmond, VA in November.
