WelcomeToSemesterNewsPromoOrientation week events for new students commence on Monday, August 15th on the Delaware Campus and on Tuesday, August 16th on the Harrisburg campus.

"Orientation serves two purposes. First, it introduces incoming students to the legal education process through the Introduction to Law courses, such as Case Briefing and Exam Preparation. Second, it introduces the incoming students to the Widener Law campus,” says Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Serena Williams, adding, “Students will have an opportunity to hear from the representatives of various administrative offices, such as Financial Aid and Career Development, and to hear from faculty and upper class students. We want to ensure that students are well-prepared for the first day of classes on Monday, August 22."

Registration and Welcome to the Profession

On the Delaware campus, new students may register at the Admissions Office between 10:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. A special Welcome to the Profession Ceremony will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel directly across from campus. Students should attend the ceremony in professional attire.

On the Harrisburg campus, open registration for new students will run from 10:00 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. in the Administration Building. The Harrisburg Welcome to the Profession Ceremony will follow at 5:00.

New students can find schedules and other pertinent resources on the respective orientation pages for Delaware or Harrisburg. Students can also look at the orientation issue of the Digest for either the Delaware or Harrisburg campus for additional information.

Attendance at all orientation events is mandatory.

Maintaining a Healthy Balance

Orientation week activities also represent an opportunity for incoming students to familiarize themselves with campus and get to know faculty, staff, and fellow students.

The Delaware Campus will host a picnic on the lawn for incoming regular division students on Friday, August 19th from noon until 1:30 p.m. to conclude Orientation Week activities. Extended division students will instead have a pizza party in the atrium of the Main Law Building from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. that evening.

Harrisburg activities will conclude on Saturday, August 20th with the “Wide-stock Festival,” from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

"I am most excited about the final day of Orientation, which is Saturday this year. We have expanded the third annual Fun Run (1 mile) to include a 5K run as well as the shorter Fun Run,” says Harrisburg Dean of Students Keith E. Sealing. “The Widener Law Running Club, which is one of our most active organizations, is co-sponsoring it with my office, and it represents my goal of helping our incoming law students to maintain a healthy balance in their lives while negotiating the rigors of law school.”

The day will also feature a lunch at noon sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations and Development. Additionally, there will be live music from noon to 2:00 p.m. provided by a band that features two alumni. There will also be a pick-up soccer game on the new field, and Dean Sealing will be bringing his "zero carbon footprint" watermelons!

Finally, new students should take advantage of the day to network with faculty, fellow students, and alumni. A variety of student groups will also be on hand to invite 1Ls to become new members.

The entire Widener Law community welcomes the incoming class and looks forward to the beginning of the fall semester!
