KurtzWin400px“As a law clerk new to the public finance practice group of the law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, I was extremely honored to be one of the recipients of the NABL Fundamentals Scholarship in its inaugural year. It was a tremendous experience to have access to and network with some of the brightest and most respected public finance, tax, and securities law attorneys from all over the country,” said Harrisburg student Laura Kurtz, who was recently recognized as one of five recipients of the inaugural National Association of Bond Lawyers 2012 Fundamentals of Municipal Bond Law Seminar Law Student Scholarships.

The scholarship included a waiver of the enrollment fee to the 2012 seminar held from April 18th through the 20th in Orlando, Florida. The scholarship also covered seminar materials and all associated travel costs.

The annual Fundamentals of Municipal Bond Law Seminar brings together attorneys, paralegals, government officials and employees, financial consultants, trustees and other municipal finance professionals and market participants to discuss municipal bond law and other related financial issues.

“Because the practice of public finance is an exceedingly complex and specialized area of law, it takes a considerable amount of time, effort and continuing education in beginning to understand the various nuances of the field,” Kurtz says of her experience at the seminar, adding, “Attending the Fundamentals Seminar was an important first step in introducing me to the subject matter of public finance and municipal bond law and has provided me with a foundation that I will continue to build on to develop my knowledge in the practice.”
