“It really is an honor to be going on behalf of Widener,” says Delaware student Sean Smith, who along with Caroline Donato will compete in the National Finals of the ABA Law Student Division’s 2012-13 Negotiation Competition that will be held February 8th and 9th at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

Caroline and Sean competed at a regional competition held in Baltimore in November, finishing 1st on the first day of competition and 2nd on the second day of competition. They were invited to the National Finals, where they will compete against 23 other teams, on the strength of that showing. The topic for the competition is small business ventures.

Current Alternative Dispute Resolution Society president Geoffrey Gleason had nothing but praise for the team, saying, “I competed in the regional competition last year. Coming back, I knew that I was going to run for ADR president and one of my goals was to get a team to the finals. It was very gratifying to see how well Sean and Caroline did at the regional.”

“One of the most consistent themes is that it’s been fun. That’s probably one the reasons we’ve been so successful,” adds Caroline.

Sean, Caroline, and Geoff were all quick to thank Assistant Dean for the Office of Student Affairs and ADR Faculty Advisor Patrick Johnston for his assistance with preparation. Caroline and Sean also thanked Geoff and ADR Vice-President Chris Pine for their assistance with preparation.

The entire Widener Law community wishes Sean and Caroline the best as they compete in Dallas!
