The
Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate Program is designed for nurses holding a current RN license who wish to expand their career options. Graduates work as consultants or experts in a variety of settings, including law firms, insurance companies, hospitals, government agencies, risk management departments and health maintenance organizations. They serve as a liaison between the attorney, the health care provider and the client.
Eligibility A candidate for the Legal Nurse Consultant program must hold a diploma, associate or baccalaureate degree, a current RN license, and a recommended 3 years of nursing experience.
Flexible Scheduling The Legal Education Institute offers convenient or flexible scheduling of full-time and part-time programs. Classes are offered in the day, evening and online.
Students may begin their education in any semester and must complete a required, semester-long Mentorship program.
Mentorship The
Mentorship course provides students with an opportunity to experience many different employment areas where Legal Nurse Consulting is practiced. Students will be paired with a Legal Nurse Consultant to gain first-hand practical knowledge with the benefits of resume enhancement prior to graduation. Selected areas of practice include, but are not limited to: medical malpractice, forensics, insurance, personal injury, Social Security disability, product liability and clinical research.
Program Completion A student who has successfully completed the required twenty-four (24) credits will graduate with a
Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate. The Certificate exemplifies that the holder has obtained the ABA-approved special skills and medical knowledge required to act as an independent nurse consultant and the legal knowledge required to investigate health care issues.
Career Opportunities Many career opportunities exist for the Legal Nurse Consultant and others are still emerging. The Legal Nurse Consultant assists both plaintiff and defense capacities in a variety of settings, and may act as an independent consultant. LNCs work with attorneys, insurance companies, hospitals, clinics, government offices, and health maintenance organizations.
