Delaware pretty much wrote the book on corporate law. And
Lawrence A. Hamermesh, Ruby R. Vale Professor of Business and Corporate Law at Widener Law’s
Delaware Campus, is one of its contributing editors.
As a member of the Corporation Law Council of the Corporation Law Section of the Delaware State Bar Association, the Yale Law graduate participates in the annual review and modernization of the Delaware General Corporation Law.
“We draft amendments to corporate law that affect hundreds of thousands of corporations, including 60 percent of the Fortune 500s,” Hamermesh says. “When it comes to guiding court decisions, no state comes close to Delaware.”
Hamermesh’s 18 years of corporate litigation experience, coupled with his prominent position in the Delaware legal community, drives his most important work—as an educator.
“My goal is to integrate study with practice,” Hamermesh says. “Whatever I research, write, and teach helps my students better understand the law and will make them better practitioners.”
As director of the
Institute of Delaware Corporate and Business Law, Hamermesh helps guide students’ development into attorneys. Through the Institute, J.D. students can pursue a
Business Organizations Law Certificate to complement their law degree with a business and corporate law specialization.
