A job in health insurance exposed Courtney Calabrese ’08 to the complexities of the healthcare industry. Wanting to learn more and expand her career options, she turned to law school.
For Calabrese, Widener Law was an easy choice. The location of the Delaware Campus was perfect—close to Philadelphia. Even more important, it featured one of the nation’s top health law programs.
“
Widener’s Health Law Institute has a great reputation not only in Philadelphia, where I want to practice, but all over the country,” Calabrese says. “There couldn’t be a more perfect place for me.”
Indeed, Widener’s program is not only renowned, it also has strong connections within the Philadelphia health law community. The Society of Healthcare Attorneys of the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania chose the Institute to produce its statewide newsletter. The Society also awards an annual scholarship to the top graduating health law student in the J.D. program.
To keep herself at the top of her education, Calabrese takes advantage of the many opportunities available to supplement the already challenging Widener Law curriculum.
“As the Health Law Society President (2006-2007), I was able to develop my leadership skills,” Calabrese says. “I also learned a lot about the field and was able to start building a wonderful network.”
Calabrese looks forward to starting a career she’s proud of and passionate about. She’s confident that the knowledge and training she’s receiving at Widener Law is exactly what she needs to make that happen.
