Five Year Milestone Reached for Annual Golf Outing Event

This year marked the fifth annual golf event in Central Pennsylvania. Though the weather was colder than anticipated, the Widener Law Alumni & Friends Golf Outing participants bundled up and prepared for an exciting round of golf on the morning of April 30, 2011. The scramble-format outing was held at Manada Golf Course in Grantville, Pennsylvania.

Upon arrival to the course, golfers enjoyed breakfast and had an opportunity to warm up on the practice putting green prior to their round of golf. Teams headed out to their first tees at 8:00 a.m.

The outing saw an increase in golfers again this year, growing to sixteen teams. Two student teams were sponsored by ProActive Settelment Solutions and Al Betz & Associates, Inc. It was once again a close call for determining the outing champions as the first and second place teams were just a stroke apart. The winning group, with a score of 60, included George Bibikos ’03, Joshua Feldman ’04, Adam Zei ’10, and guest Zach Prowant. Bibikos and Zei were also members of the 2010 winning foursome. In a close second with a score of 61 was a team comprised of Matt Monaghan ’05, Greg Mills ’03, Nate Giunta ’03, and Jeff Watson ‘03.

In addition to the winning foursome, the winners of three skills contests were announced during the post-outing luncheon sponsored by Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC. Contests included a men’s and women’s longest drive competition sponsored by Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby LLP; a closest-to-the-pin competition sponsored by PNC Bank; a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Sutliff Cadillac.Saab; and, a Pot of Gold competition hosted by volunteers and Harrisburg campus staff
members Kyle Schaeffer and Paula Heider. Skills contest winners included the following golfers:
  • Longest Drive – Sarah Brown ’05, student Joel Patch
  • Closest-to-the-Pin – student Sam Shusterhoff, student James Hoppenjans (2nd Place)
  • Pot of Gold – Allen Ayala, Guest
Unfortunately, no one sank a hole-in-one to win a car. The door prize drawing, raffle drawing, and 50/50 drawing were held during the post-outing luncheon as well.

On behalf of Dean Linda L. Ammons and the Widener University School of Law, thank you to all golfers, sponsors, and volunteers for your participation. We appreciate your support of the Widener Law Scholarship Fund!
