Harrisburg Relay for Life Teams Hold Successful Fundraisers

As the much-anticipated Harrisburg campus Relay for Life approaches, there have been many worthy fundraisers organized by the Relay for Life teams.

Team Squash, a Relay for Life Team composed of staff and administrators, has been hosting a variety of fundraisers. Earlier in September, Team Squash held a Halloween/Pet Sale. They had a table in the pit with homemade dog treats and pet costumes as an effort to raise money for their Relay for Life Team. Additionally, they are now auctioning off free exam-soft registration, food, Widener gear and additional prize packages that will be drawn at Relay for Life.

Team Squash also organized a fundraiser with Sandella’s. Sandella’s, located in the Shoppes at Susquehanna Marketplace, will be donating 20% of all proceeds from 5p.m. to 9 p.m. on October 4th, 2011 to Widener’s Relay for Life.

The Student Bar Association is currently raffling off a front row parking spot on the Harrisburg campus. The winner will not only receive a parking spot but a personalized sign as well. Tickets are one ticket for one dollar or five tickets for four dollars. Tickets are on sale in the pit and the winner will be announced at Relay for Life.

The Student Bar Association team hosted a celebrity bartending event on September 30 that raised $250. Another celebrity bartending event will be held this Friday at Molly Brannigan’s from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

A Silent Auction is also being held by the Relay for Life committee. Various donations are being auctioned off such as an "Orioles basket" full of tons of Orioles merchandise and a autographed ball by Mark Wieters; "money tree" a small Christmas tree with $20 worth of scratch offs; a fly fishing lesson with professor Capowski; and dinner for 8-12 students hosted by the legal methods staff. The winners will be announced later this week.

Relay for life will take place on the Harrisburg campus on October 15, 2011. If anyone is interested in participating please contact Megan Henry at mehenry@mail.widener.edu.
