Giunta, Mills, Monaghan, and Watson Reclaim the Title

Widener Law’s Sixth Annual Alumni & Friends Golf Outing in Central Pennsylvania was held on Saturday, April 21st, 2012. The golfers who gathered to give to the Scholarship Fund were welcomed by the warm April sun when they arrived at Manada Golf Club in Grantville. After enjoying lunch in the pavilion and practicing putting on the green, the group of alumni, students, staff, and guest golfers loaded their carts and headed off to their tee assignments for the 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

The Scholarship Fund supporters enjoyed a variety of skills contests throughout the day including the men’s and women’s longest drive, closest-to-the-pin, pot of gold, hole-in-one, and putting contest. The challenges added an element of fun to the day and also helped boost the proceeds raised for Widener Law students. The putting contest culminated with a post-outing putt-off to determine the final winner of the competition and $100.00 prize. All other skills contest champions, the 50/50 drawing winner, and raffle prize winners were announced during the post-outing dinner.

Just like last year, it was a close game with the winning foursome once again winning by just one stroke! This year’s winning team returns to a victory they held three years ago. The first-place foursome with a score of 57 included Nathan Giunta ’03, Greg Mills ’03, Matt Monaghan ’05, and Jeff Watson ’03. Committee member Christian Davis ’92 presented the team with the outing trophy. The tournament champions also received four boxes of golf balls and two rounds of golf per person courtesy of Manada Golf Club. Losing by a hair was the 2010 and 2011 winning foursome of George Bibikos ’03, Josh Feldman ’04, guest Zach Prowant, and Adam Zei ’10. In third place with a score of 60 was Kyle Meyer ’09, Patrick Daley ’09, guest Aaron Holbrook, and guest Michael Lopez. The second and third place teams also received one complimentary round of golf from the host course.

This fundraising event has earned over $16,000 for the law school throughout the past six years while growing from three foursomes in year one to fifteen in year six. The Golf Committee will be expanding in 2013 and we want you to join! E-mail Ashley Barton at to express your interest in answering the call to volunteer.

Widener University School of Law would like to thank all of our generous sponsors, gift donors, and players for recognizing the importance of the Scholarship Fund and helping us raise money for this worthy cause. Thank you!
